Tablets are meant for consumption, not productivity and in this sense, they shine. Their portability for reading and checking email and browsing are excellent. Beyond that, while they can be customized with apps to make them more productivity-efficient, not all consumers will wish to do this. Some people do just want plug and play.
To add to this,all you really need is an Android PHONE for just the same purpose...a tablet isnt even necessary. But some of us are going blind in our old age(ahem..) and could use the bigger screen real estate to help out,so tabs are somewhat useful to certain folks.As they say,to each his/her own
