I agree that the storage is too small to be practically used for 1080p movies.

But for me the advantage of HD playback is just being able to copy on a HD movie from my hard-drive and play it without transcoding to Xvid or MP4 first. I like the idea of a player that 'plays everything' - I mean, you get so used to being able to play everything on your computer, download new codecs etc. So hopefully this player (and other similar ones that im sure will come out from other manufacturers) lives up to the claims.

It would be nice if some Chinese makers could use 1.8" hard-drives for their PMPs. The same kind of drive that is used in the regular iPod.

Well, the P7 uses the new Telechips package according to the press release used by ZOL and imp3. Includes a Wolfson codec, so that should be interesting (you can see it all blurry in the foreground in this other post on ZOL about the TCC8901.

Get ready for an avalanche of the same player in different boxes...

Not surprising anymore, but early on there was talk about a Vimicro chip in connection with a new Chuwi.

The only player I'm now aware of with the Vimicro VC0831 is from Patriot (Aigo), the PM5926HD.

If you have the choice between 1080p and a cheaper 100M, what would you do? To hell with 1080p, I would say.

I wish Telechips Linux SDK would leak :) imagine the possibilities when their architecture suddenly becomes open, you would have thousand of older PMPs that would support practically everything in no time, without being dependent on these Chinese PMP Manufactures (that know things like MKV just from the Marketing side) ;) the Devices that already started to appear that have been developed on the Omap 3 Open Source platform show the gigantic possibilities of a very close unrestricted User/Manufacture relationship these Chinese and Korean companies sure gonna follow this trend like Creative already does (in a more closed ring way though) :)
Telechips main underlying decoding architecture is based on OpenMax and it seems their Engineers are very good in optimizing their Video Decoder, any PMP using their Chips could in almost every range (especially 79xx/89xx) be capable of so much more (playback wise) than what they currently do compared to Sochip or Rockchip :), can't wait to hear how good/bad all these Chinese PMPs coming out with their 89xx Chip now do in terms off Decoding Performance and content interoperability. RockChip needs to react pretty fast now and present their new Chip and Decoding enhancements or they gonna lose the first place that they still have in most reviewers opinion.

Here you can really feel how up2date their R&D is https://www.telechips.com/kor/inc/pop_c ... &u_id=1348 (79xx)
