New 787 owner, need help

Postby JCMS » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:21 am

Because my first impression right now is bad...
Loaded with the firmware v1.8. I tried updating with this guide but nothing happens

Also, the touch screen is really unresponsive, both with fingers and stylus. Especially on the "playing music" screen. the play/pause, forward, volume , set up and the FM emission rarely work.
If I shut down the unit, the volume & background theme are resetted.
Thanks for your hep

EDIT: Ok, I got to boot the firmware update software but it doesn't work. It goes to the "restart system" step, then shuts down. I have to hit the reset switch to turn it on again and the firmware stays unchanged.

EDIT2: Now it's bricked. I can't turn it on no matter what I do. When I plug it into my computer it doesn't boot, and Vista is asking for a driver.

EDIT: Mass hitting the reset switched debricked it....

Okay thanks I'll try that. I already tried with the file on the player though but it didn't work. It just went on and on for an hour.

Merry christmas by the way

If you were trying to upgrade to firmware v2.0 then the only way to do that is with the new Onda Device Manager v1.4.1 also known as the Recovery Tool v1.4.1

Merry Xmas

Yeah, I tried that way before and after you told me. It just never goes past the first stage (of copying the files I guess, I can't read mandarin)
I've been able to make what didn't work work now though. I have a quadruple quick touch them...quite unusual though but still, it works.

Thanks

When you re-start it, install the drivers at this point, and then follow the guides. Will do this if the drivers are not there already.

And as for Vista.....some do...Most dont work.
If all still fails, use a PC with XP on it.

The first thing to do is to set the Onda tool to either English or French, navigate to the directory where the tool is installed, using notepad, open the file called setting.ini and change the very bottom line.

Here is a copy of my setting.ini file

[DEVICE_ID]
NAME=ROCK USB
VID=0x071B
PID=0x3201

[SYSTEM_MSC_ID]
NAME=ROCK27
VID=0x071B
PID=0x3203

[LOADER_MSC_ID]
VID=0x071B
PID=0x3203

[SYSTEM]
APPTITLE=ONDA update tools
VOLUMELABEL=ONDA
BOOTCODE=Rock27Boot.bin
SWITCHROCKUSB=Setup.rkw
SYSTEMSPACE=90
HOMEPAGE=http://www.onda.cn/
Language=English

Now at least you will be able to read any errors etc.

Next.. it looks like you have a copy of all the firmware partitions folders and files on you're normal media drive and also a copy of the firmware - it is best to remove all of these files as part of the firmware upgrade is to format this partition, copy across a file and then prompt you to upgrade via the players menu before it completes the process via the PC , these files may cause problems with the process.

Ok, thanks for the translation tip. I tried with and without the files. I'll format it and try again.

EDIT: Same thing. Nothing happens. It just loops on "Repairing, do not remove USB device".

Hmm now I see what you mean about the firmware partition... but I can't acess it. It says there's no drive in it.
