the midnite. The older ones with the resistive touchpanel sounds good for you.

ther midnite only has the removable battery, for as i know its not a player for video, let alone 1080P and no HDMI either, plus its still quite pricey
looking under a 100 is hard and you fall into the pit of the unknown and the less powerful, especially where 1080P is concerned - im not sure how well the via tabs handle video as they fall into the cheap 100 category, but really the price is probably a little low
removable battery again is a pain as i think the midnite, and maybe one other has removable, its not something that's done

at the moment the AllWinner A10 based tabs seem a real bargain, with the NOVO7 Advanced being the current top dog in popularity, but you will need an extra $0 to grab one, but i think its probably worth waiting and saving as under 100 it just too hit and miss

I was meaning it is the closer that I know.... Due to the removal battery.

Almost no players or tablets have removable batteries. It is just not in the design anymore, especially in this price range, so just check that off the list.

At the $100 mark you will barely get a player with decent 1080p support. Look for a SC9800 player like the Ainol V8000HDR. It can be found for about $100 and will do the job. It also has HDMI. It will have some issues with some 1080p files though. And quite frankly the problems get more pronounced as time goes on. The software is as is, and considering its age I doubt Ainol will give it any more firmware updates and this will effect the compatability.

Android tablets may not get an updated OS (sometimes they do though), but market applications get updated regularly. and you can always download another if the one you are using doesn't work. This means very high versatility/compatability. Only really limited by the power of your hardware.

If you want android and wifi you are looking at the $130-$150 price range. Specifically the Novo 7 Advanced (with the A10 allwinner), or the Windows N50 DT/Zero (RK291 8) . The Novo 7 Advanced I can vouch for it's compatability. THe Windows N50 others will have to attest to, but it seems to do the job.

I will say short of the hi10p h264 videos, the Novo7 advanced will play anything I give it (laughing and putting the Tegra2 tablets to shame), and I've tried some horrible 1080p high profile h264 files.

ah ok... at first i wanted to buy a tablet that does it all (good gaming perf and video playback) but found out it's difficult to find a tab doing both rightly... the rockchip/amllogic tabs look solid in terms of video playback but poor for gaming... tegra 2 looks good in gaming but poor in video playback... ainol novo7 seems good for both but low res screen... lol so decided to buy a cheap 1080 media player and a tegra 2 tab.

You could probably just wait, I know there are some higher Res tablets that use the a10 chip, although those 7" tabs won't be under the $100 mark they are slated to cost around $160.
