I was trying to change firmwares… The device not found prompt came up, I plugged it in and the update process started. I didn't close the prompt -- the update seemed to stop at 40%. I then closed the prompt and the update process either stopped or finished, I'm not sure. Now the player doesn't get recognized by the computer and doesn't turn on. Usually when this happens at least the player is recognized, then I would just have to reinstall the driver.

Dude don't worry keep trying. As long as no cables are loose or nothing you should be able to revive it.

Hold the power button while you plug the USB connection in---this should get the computer to recognize the player as a new drive.

I did the same think on my HDW--and that trick worked for me. After that, I have been reluctant to mess around too much with firmware--unless there's a major improvement.

Go to the guide I posted, and scroll down to the "if the player isn't recognized" section. Hang in there, you'll get it.

I been trying for about an hour. Nothing is happening. The other times when the player wouldn't turn on, it would at least be recognized by Windows and would be listed in remove hardware on the taskbar. This time nothing happens. Doesn't appear to be on in anyway and other computers do not recognize it at all. No dialog comes up asking to install drivers.

Like I said, go to the "If your player isn't recognized" section of my guide, and keep doing it until you get it.

Also do check the USB cable you are using, this can affect updating and try using a usb port located on the back of your device.

Yeah, that's a problem I had doing a firmware update before, I used a different USB cable and it worked for me.
