Hi all,

I have been amazingly reading thes forum and already have a Rocktab. My issue is I am unable to put widgets on my desktop. Pressing the desktop for a few seconds opens the add program (and wallpaper options) screen but there is no action for 'add widget'.

I am sure I missed something. If you know of an answer please let me know.

This one is displaying a custom clock that I developed and installed via the emulator.

Thanks for your amazingly quick response but the Rocktab does not show the Widgets option when long pressing the Home screen :( . Still TY for your effort.

you got yours quick - is this the actual rocktab from mp4nation??
as seen in this image from warriorpoet its true that widgets are disabled/not available on this player

maybe this will be unlocked when custom roms become available or maybe could be a suggestion - there could also be a valid reason for having no widgets
as the players home screen has several pages does this happen on all of them, can you try add widgets to another home screen

I have looked at several of the video reviews and the various screen shots, I believe it is not there because there is no need for it, all the system widgets appear to be placed on the desktops. :|

This is a bit of a nightmare for developers as the current Android SDK is setup for phones.

This is why Rockchip should be made to release their Android source code, the license clearly states it should be open source to stop this kind of problem. :x

.. there is apparently something released from archos for their home 7 tablet (same rockchip base as this rocktab) - not sure to what level they released or what they released, i am sure rockchip would not let them release anything too in depth
i think this is going to be a problem for many manufacturers - i assume samsung are releasing source as well as all the other big names?? or is this going to be one of theior "grey areas" in which they will all find ways around it

Now don't quote me on this, but I thought d2k said if you press and hold the volume down key you got a menu list of the last few widgets you had installed on the RockTab and from there you can add the widget(s) to the desktop.

**EDIT** Found this too

At the very least, let me give you a few pointers :) The widget tab has an infinatly better calendar app than the one you see when you turn it on,switch the two out as soon as you can. Also, get an app called"Backrounds" in the Marketplace,it allows you to set/download/save nearly 1000 wallpapers to your Rocktab...and most of them ROCK!! Also try the apps I already put on the first post, they work without slowing down the Rocktab too much.Keep the apps simple and you will have a great time with this :) If you havent figured it out yet,you can click and hold an icon on the desktop and drag it to the trash can that appears on the bottom to clean up your desktop, and also to add apps from the pull up tab easily, just do the same thing, click and hold an icon and drag it to the desktop, makes setting it up alot faster :) One more app: Quick Battery, its got alot of options(and after download youll find it in the widgets tab),dont forget to play around with its settings a bit,it really works great :)

pressing and holding down volume refers to the quick launch set of apps, same can be done on the apad by holding the home button down, almost like ALT TAB on windows, its not for adding widgets to the desktop unfortunately

There are 2 tabs on the home screen at the bottom. The left one is apps, the right one is widgets. If you install a widget from the marketplace, and it doesn't show up in the widgets tab, power down your unit, and turn it back on again. It should be there.

The "Add to Home screen" that SeaSprite posted above, does work if you are using the LiveHome launcher.
