i wonder if this is related to the problems we get over wifi, and that is the image / video preview window trying to play the movie as you navigate over it??, it a big file, i assume over 5gig? nationite are requesting that this preview window be removed and for streaming not to start until selected which may solve it, unfortunately i cant test as i do not have LAN setup and wont be able to and i wont even try it over wifi as i am sure it will choke (plus all the files are converted direct to internal HDD so dont have them on the PC)

again, i cant get the HDVP2 to play makeMKV rips in sync and there seems little options etc in the program??

hope fully rowwor can test over LAN as she has used makeMKV i think, so may have some big files to test

Yes.

The MKV files tha I have ripped and attemped to stream are considerably larger than the sample MKV files discussed in this thread.

For example, my standard DVD Mission Impossible MKV rip is 5.47GB and my Blue-ray Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thieves MKV rip is 6.55GB.

I am willing to test any suggestions or take part in testing any potential beta firmware that Nationite may release to address this issue.

I am really keen to get this sorted out as I had planned to build a dedicated media server to store my DVD and Music collection on and stream the content on-demand to my HDTV using the HDVP-2.

However, this current issue is a real showstopper for my plans that needs to be resolved.

Otherwise I may be forced to return the HDVP-2 as it is not fit for purpose

This would be a shame, as the unit does produce great lookimg images with locally stored HD content.

So I would like to particiate in any initiatives to resolve this streaming issue.

By the way, are any of you familiar with a utility called MediaiInfo. I have been using it to analyse the sample MKV files discussed in this thread.

According to the MediaInfo utility they were all encoded with various different versions of an application called MKMerge and not MakeMKV.

Who created these sample MKV files and did they try creating a MKV file of a complete film/movie?

Maybe it woud be worth using another application to create large MKV files and see if there is any difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions for altervative applications to rip DVDs to MKV files on a Windows platform?

Finally, I would like to see the supplier (MP4Nation) of this product to be actively involved in resolving this problem. As I cannot believe that this feature was not tested before bringing the product to market. I don't expect to be a beta tester for a product that I have paid for in good faith.

well, i see what you mean but in their defense not every scenario can be tested to perfection, especially where video files are concerned, so many variations and each PC is just different we are bound to see different results, just look at the fact that i use makeMKV and on the internal HDD i get sync problems, you don't, rowwor used it to test subs and had different result than me etc etc. i went on western digital site a few days back and its a similar thing, different people different problems arise, its inevitable im afraid, only through real world use can things be found and changed, i write software for a living, even though you try to cover all bases, as soon as the end user/real users gets it on their setup is when things / bugs / problems appear

anyway, regardless you have come up against a problem, so we need more results from other people as soon as possible and lets hope we cam find a solution

Ok, I have made a full DVD to mkv file using makeMKV. It end up have 3 titles saved. Played one title which is the part of advertising, both showed duration and file size correctly. Has no out of sync issues. But the full movie(mkv) displays preview, Duration 1:29mins and file size as 16777215.00TB(  ), It plays on external hard drive with no problem but through LAN, it freeze after 5 second started play, it'll play for a second then freeze again..I think it's something to do with network speed, also the large files.

TBH, why will I do this? It has internal, external, SD card options to put any large files on it. It's great to have the network option but from what I read about this network sharing stuff over years. It's not really recommended for large files over the network. To me, It plays fine with avi and other video I throw at it.

You may not want to do this, but I do.

Thanks for carrying out the testing and replicating the problem , which proves that this issue is not isolated to my setup

I want to be able to digitally archive my DVD and BD collection to a dedicated media server.

I want to create a digital Movie library wiith an intuitive interface that enables me stream over my Ethernet LAN a movie in its original high quality on my 50" HDTV.

THe HDVP-2 is marketed as a HD 1080P Media Player with WIFI and LAN streaming, which is the main reason I bought it.

The text below is take from the product info for the HDVP-2 on http://www.nationiteplayers.com/hdvp2Presentation.htm.

"With the Nationite HDVP-2 your videos never have to be just confined to your PC, the HDVP-2 comes with a built in LAN port and is WiFi ready (via USB Wifi dongle that is sold separate). Within minutes you can setup your PC into a media sever which the HDVP-2 can then stream videos directly off and onto your TV.

No need to watch videos on your PC's hard drive on a small screen, the HDVP-2 will allow you to stream any compatible video format* through the HDVP-2.

No more copying video files onto another memory device and then carry it to your media player, with network streaming you save time and money by not needing to purchase any additional memory storage devices.

*Compatible Video Formats MKV/TS/AVI/MOV/MP4/MPG/DAT/M2TS/RM/RMVB/SWF
Video Encoding RM/RMVB/H.264/MPEG1/2/4/DVIX/XIVD to 1080p/FLASH
AUdio Encoding Dolby Directional logic, AC3, DTS , RA, AMR
Max Resolution 1080P ( 1920 × 1080 ) "

HD LAN streaming is a primary feature of the HDVP-2 not some secondary nice to have feature that may work but is not significant if it doesn't.

The HDVP-2 is all about HD LAN 0streaming and eliminating the hassle involved in transferring Video files to USB drives or whatever media, then having to connect it to your media player just to watch a movie.

If I wanted to do this I would have purchased a HDVP-1.

I want this problem to be escalated to Nationite as a matter of high priority for resolution.

Can anyone please tell me how I can do this?

thanks.

i find it odd that the player sees and works fine locally, meaning files play and are accepted, the streaming over the LAN could either be LAN restrictions from the PC because all the player is doing, with these media streamers is showing what the streamer is sending, so does anyone know if there are generally any problems sending such large files over LAN???,

how long do you wait before trying to play the movie?? - as its a big file the streamer may be still sending info and caching, so select the movie and wait 5 mins to see if anything changes

check tversity log files and see if its telling you anything about what maybe happening

@Eugiol1965 network speed limitations (i.e. the speed your ethernet card and router can send data) is limited and 1080p videos will not work properly. Some media streamers use buffering to overcome this, but devices like the HDVP-2 will play anything higher than 720p very jerky. I actually do make mention of this on the video review, however network speed limitation is a well know restrictions when it comes to network streamers.

Eugiol1965, you maybe need to check your ISP's offer for internet high speed package. I know most of them offer the different package depend on the speed you chose. If for gaming and movie. more likely you'll need to get highest speed they offer which means you'll pay more of course.

@ maderin, like you said, its a big file the streamer may be still sending info and caching, yes, it has. I have left it play after it freezed, it still going frame by frame from time to time, It didn't take too long I start to play the movie, almost instantly.
In my case, I have cheapest package from my ISP, optimized for email and web surfing, my HDVP2 still can stream avi videos fine. I can live with it. maybe I can try my friend's when she has time at home. She has highest package which allow her HB play games online.
