After 2 years the 2 removable batteries in my JXD 960 have decayed to only 30 minutes and replacements seem to be unobtainable..
I was therefore on the lookout for a replacement player and after wandering the web I was struck by the new generation of mini netbooks..These old eyes prefer a larger screen size.
I see PMP sizes up to 7"now with prices to match. So why not just get a minibook with 8.5 or 10 inch screen and have the full functions of a mobile PC ??? for a price not too far removed from a plain MP3/MP4/TXT,etc PMP.
The overall size, weight etc is not much different and no hassle with hardware and strange Chinese OS's..
Silly idea ?? or worth considering, especially for us older users.. :o ops:

I was thinking about that myself. Then read on the web that netbooks are under powered to run anything other then WiFi and a browser for inet applications.

Check this out

The SmartQ line might be something your after. It is 5"-7" touch screen with built in Bluetooth, WiFi, browser, video player. Running the Windows CE 6.0 OS. Just wish they had a SSD instead of the limited one they do have on it.

Main difference (for me) is the awful soundchip in most (nearly all) UMPC - Sub- Net- and Notebooks.
Could be compensate with a decent USB-DAC.

Yes I was thinking the exact same thing. And in this coming year, we're supposed to see a lot more netbooks get graphics that suppport hi def movies and 3d games. I just wanted a player that I could still fit into my pocket. But in about 2 years time, the netbooks should become very affordable. I will get one that is also a tablet then.

Glad to see I was not the only one thinking along those lines....Exodus,I was thinking more ASUS,HP,SONY rather than those E>Bay by the bucket load notebooks.. Why buy something that you KNOW will self destruct in a month.

Well there is a price difference between a pmp and a netbook, also most pmp's can fit in your pocket, a net book can't, even though the screen may be only 7.0', ass the rest of the netbook body and the device becomes a bit bulky.
