I see many gsm triband and dual band phones... do they work with att wireless in us (wisconsin)
my current phone is Moto L2.... it's a quad-band phone. How can I tell if its using GSM 850 which most of these phones dont seem to support...

Search "Wisconsin GSM 850", and if people say you need the 850 band, it wint work, but in most places you can roam on the 1900 GSM band. I hope it works.

I'd just stay away from dual-band phones all together if you live in the States.

Most likely, if you have a tri-band phone, you'll be ok. Safest bet is to go with a quad, though.

Dual-bands shouldn't be worth your time here in the States, though.

Most of the phones at mp4nation are tri-band. Four of them are dual-band. And the A777 is actually a quad band.

not completely true bryce.

my "backup" phone, which has been my "main phone" of and on for about 1.5 years is an older dual band gsm phone. it only had 850 and 1900 bands, which worked perfectly for me because my entire area is 1900 (per the link i posted above).

i never had issues with any dual band as long as 1 band was 1900

Yes, you are correct on that, jo. Thank you for clarifying. As long as 1900 IS a band in a dual band phone, you should be just fine.

Yeah, generally any Chinese import that says "Dual Band" won't contain the frequencies required in the US since they're intended for Asia anyhow. Some labeled "Tri-band" won't either, so you have to be sure you research what frequencies these phones have before you buy.

T-Mobile and iWireless are 1900, and I think AT&T is 850.

not to call you out or anything, but did you even click the link i posted?

ATT is as more 1900 than it is 850

check out the coverage maps...
ATT 1900 - http://www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin/ni_map.pl?cc=us&net=be
ATT 850 - http://www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin/ni_map.pl?cc=us&net=b2

yeah if you are buying a phone from here or anywhere else and you reside in the US, i would strongly recommend making sure it has 850 instead of 800, especially if you have ATT.
