yes, tap centre but with stylus or something similar, fingers are nails are too inaccurate as this is a resistive screen

as for SUBS - create a blak SRT text files and have nothing in it, when you select this on the player it will hide other subs - hopefully an update will correct this issue

Thanks for the tip, but are you doing this for MKV's with subtitles embeded? If you are remuxing the files, what app are you using?

Thanks for your impressions, happy to hear that it arrived fast. The PDF function is still quite buggy, but tbh i haven't come across any portable device that has been very good at opening PDF's (short of a laptop).

I hope you continue to enjoy using your new toy :)

Hi,

How is the screen compared to the V9000HDA for example? are there some pictures/movies where the V8000HDY is compared to an (for example) V9000HDA ? I liked to have this player for the great resolution, with that resolution, it would be also perfect for viewing PDF's, because you could read a A4 page on the screen, the best thing would be if the margins would crop and only displays the information on the page, it would be perfectly to read then. But it seems PDF viewing is not realy good at the moment...

So the Ainol P810 would have a better screen? to bad that player is to big, a 7 inch player would be perfect for viewing movies. 4.3 inch is a little to smal. 8 inch is to big to fit in a pocket and it also would weight more. What is the weight of the V8000HDY?

I would buy the V8000HDY if the screen was good enough to view movies. The screen of the V9000HDA looks perfect but is to small and i use it mainly with tv-out. The reason is, that i mostly use it for viewing tutorials for how to use computer programs. And for that... you need to see what options they click, and somethimes the 4.3 inch screen is to small for that. Maybe it's better to stay with what i have now and wait till next year for a 7 inch player with hopefully a better screen, but thesame resolution?

Raz did get a review of the V8000HDY but it was taken away because of the messed up audio, hopefully it comes back soon.

PDF performance is mediocre. I have tested 6 different PDF's of different sizes. Two were comic books of around 10MB, these both failed with the error "Sorry! Can't Render Page!" .I tried a 50MB manual which caused the device to crash and reboot. The only one that worked was a 'CSS for Dummies' ebook. When you get it to work, navigation is reasonable but the lack of responsiveness makes 'turning pages' frustrating.

Also you might try opening a PDF file that's formatted to fit the screen size of that PMP. I plan on testing that when my V8000HDY shows up in the mail. For example, you can using Foxit PDF creator (or some other PDF software) to change the margins on one of your PDFs, then try opening it to see if that helps. Or you can try downloading a PDF from a site that allows you to customize the margins like Manybooks.

Congratulations. I'm glad you got your PMP so quickly in the mail. Still waiting on mine. I'll remember your tip and the first thing I'll do when I turn it on is to go into settings and change it to English.

I understand your comments on the screen quality. Even w/ a LTPS, the larger screen PMP's don't have the same quality as the top of the line 4.3 screens like the V9000HDA. But I'm hoping that it's large enough that the front angle is good enough to make up for it.

Well actually the largest player so far with great viewing angle is the V6000HDT which is a 4.8 inch screen.

OK, I just checked the Hong Kong Post website. They say it arrived at my town today. So I should either get it today or tomorrow in the mail.
