Greetings to you all!

I already had 2 MIDnite tablets, running Android 2.2 and 2 weeks ago I decided to buy a third one as a birthdaygift for my mother.

Yesterday I received the package (payed extra for quick delivery, 'cause it had to be on time ofcourse) and I turned it on;

"Big White Black Flashes On The Screen!"

Android 2.2 came up, the screen was frozen, nothing happened... So I decided to flash the firmware to Android 2.3 (which I wanted to do afterall, curious as I am for the new operating system). Since I already have 2 other tablets I can do the flash-thing eyes-wide-shut;

Format SD-card FAT32 using HP-tool, remove battery, insert card, connect wallcharger, press power + volume (retry 10 times, because 9 out of 10 this won't work), etc...

Well, after a few tries it worked out; Android 2.3 was installed and after the flash-thing the tablet went off by itself...

...and never turned on!

I tried everything; removing the battery, waiting for 12 hours, recharging, reflashing, pushing the reset-hole on the bottom (is there really something in that hole?!), etc...

Nothing worked out - the tablet is dead, as dead can be... Because I've 2 other tablets, I decided to switch batteries;

The one that came with the new tablet worked 100% fine in the other tablets, and the old batteries... worked for one time only in the new tablet! So it wasn't a battery thing... By the way; the green light is green when fully powered (I charged the first battery for almost 18 hours to be sure it was full), it's red/green when low on energy and... dimmed when off :)

The only time the new device turned on was for about 5 minutes; but I couldn't do much with it... all mayor Android services crashed during start-up, or had to be forced-closed, the screen is extreme not-responsive (at least 5 times worse than the resistive version) and another bad thing;

I was not able to sign up with a new / default Google account for entering the market or any other Android-based services; I got the message that my 'phone' was not accepted by Google anylonger... Offcourse I tried Z4Root (it crashed), tried modifying the firmware with ADB (I do develop Android software, so I know what to do...), etc...

Nothing worked out; once the tablet turned of, it never turned on - flashing is not possible, switching batteries does nothing, the screen is not responding, Google is not allowing the device to use the market, etc...

What's next? Offcourse my mothers-birthday, but I do not see any solution for bringing this new A81H+ back to live, with a normale responsive screen, Google services and not having to try turning it on for about 50 times an hour...

I know you can not compare this tablet to 'the other one', but at the end - it's not thát cheap, so I just want to be able to use it and not throw it away, unused in the recyclebin within 48 hours... afterall, it's a birthdaygift.

Very sorry to hear its not working properly out of the box, i would suggest trying to give it another reflash but back to the latest 2.2 firmware and see what happens.

Please make sure you load the firmware that is suitable for the midnites with the newer processor.

Hi,

Just came back from the birthday :)

It seems that it is not possible to flash the Tablet to Android 2.2 once you flashed it to 2.3... When I trie to reflash it with (the accurate) Android 2.2 firmware... nothing happens -> the device even doesn't start up (like it has no power).

But when I switch micro-sd cards and try to flash with Android 2.3, it acts normal... I've been able to restore the device by uploading a zipped-firmware-update by ADB / USB-cable.. so the thing is not bricked anymore; it does work ('though I can't get back to Android 2.2, since never happens when I trie to).

It seems that it is NOT possible to get root, using Z4ROOT (which works fine with the previous version of this tablet), you have to use GINGERBREAK instead (it's free, just a small .apk-file and it does root Android 2.3 on our tablet).

Another problem is the touchscreen; Android 2.2 came with an internal calibration-program for this, but Android 2.3 doesn't and the screen is very not-responsive out of the box (at least mine...).

I managed to download an universal calibration tool, called "HTC Calibration APK" -> again, it's small and free and does calibrate the device.

But now the screen has it's own live -> even when you do not touch it, it starts acting on it's own; you see hotspots pressed all over the screen, like a ghost-finger is handling it...

So Root Explorer was started, some .SH scripts activated, the browser started browsing, all bookmark were reset, screen was turned on / off, etc... This happens after about 5 to 10 minutes of normal use.

The only solution was turning of the power, getting the battery out and be patient for about 1 to 3 minutes...

Anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me, maybe 'caused by the HTC-calibration program (which they claim to be universal, 'though).

By the way - I still love our tablet! This is my third, and it's a major upgrade, but I hope the baby-bugs will be splashed soon...

LOL @ Ghost finger handling..

Just wondering what happens if you uninstall the HTC Calibration APK? some times the apps could make it acting funny..

Think I'm gonna reflash the device, and this time without the calibration...

It's annoying that the device is touching it's own screen... It's really like a ghost; buttons are pressed, files are moved, settings are changed... just like an old-skool virus taking of the machine... Droid Ex Machina, ghost in the machine...

Anyone else with a capacitive-screen has this problem?

Update - The capacitive screen is still acting like crazy, it has a live of it's own and makes the tablet 100% unusable...

I've reflashed thing (again) to the latest firmware 2.3 but the device touches it's own buttons, kills files, resets settings, etc...

Is this normal behaviour of a brand new device, or do I have a lemon (wrong produced device).

This is the third tablet I bought, must I buy a fourth one to have a finally good working one?

Regards...

The ghost touching, does it happen on one particular side (i.e. more on the left than the right), can you check to make sure the frame of the MIDnite does not seem to be more pushed in on one area than others.

If you are having a lot of issues then please open a support ticket and the support team will help you out further.

Thank you very much for the app GINGERBREAK, it's work perfectly. I have in my A81H+ gingerbread 2.3.3 but i can't use z4root, it's crash, but with this app, i can do my backup with titanium backup perfectly.
I try to execute Setcpu, but no works, it's said that i have not super permissions....
Thank you very much.

Hello, my firmware 2.3 worked fairly only a few hours, now it turns on and immediately crash.
I would go back to firmware 2.2, but I do not know where to download it, have you a link please?

Check this:
viewtopic.php?f=79&t=21541

But double check to make sure its compatible version for the MIDnite you have.
