Video on the blog:
http://mp4nation.net/blog/2009/09/new-n ... -and-more/

Finally got round to doing the video review before i needed to send back the player to the factory today. Again please note the firmware is still in development, but all the hardware is quite sound.

Sorry for sounding tired in the video, got the flu, you can even see the clammy sweat from the flu from hands on the player, am off to home and get some rest ;)

Nice preliminary review Raz, looks good so far I'd say. Didn't know you were trying to get them to use a 800x480 screen, that would indeed put it ahead of most of it's competition.
Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

well i LOVE it so far and as i am one of those SOME PEOPLE who wanted fonts that is also a welcome addition

i am not going to criticise the UI as i actually like it as it is now, its functional and simple an i even like the main menu too

as for the higher res, not sure how far you wqill get with this because for one they will need to totally redo all images in bigger size for the high res screen and also i would worry more about the impact on the battery with a larger screen to drive

well, personally i would have truly liked a slightly sleeker body design, as i whined before i love the s:flo but i think a refresh on the design would have been nice, that aside i am so far very impressed indeed

Go get some rest, my friend. We need a healthy Raz to negotiate a kick-arse deal on these bad boys!

Not looking to bad. Obviously the Ui needs work but the foundations are definitely there.

I don't know what the Rk2806 power consumption is like but as Mad said I think an 800x480 screen would kill the battery pretty quick. HVGA screens are ok for apple, microsoft, creative, iriver, cowon and pretty much every other pmp manufacturer on the planet at this time for screens around this size so they are OK with me! Although saying that 800x480 would be a touch but not at the expense of the battery.

It's definitely early days, so it's pretty difficult to tell how this will eventually compare to the likes of the T11 RK and Oppo S39. The hardware looks reasonably solid, although the body is a little chunky, a slimmer profile would have been nice. The UI is really the deal breaker for me though. There is certainly potential and hopefully they will be able to make some strong improvements on that front. They will need to be on point though beacuse we are starting to see some actually pretty decent UI's emerging from other chinese manfacturers.

Comment and question for you Raz:

1. Comment - I'm super stoked that there is a dedicated volume rocker on this. All players should have this rather than a UI-based volume control.

2. Question - With that built-in amp for the headphones, how would this potentially interact with a Fiio amp product? I've noticed that when using an external amp with a device with another substantial amp you get weird results. Did you get a chance to plug one in during your test run?

from the sample you had how was the players reaction when music was playing as on the old rockchip player the player would nearly grind to a halt when trying to multi-task, is the same on this or have they solved that now

i really think the high res screen will be overkill raz, i would leave that to the dedicated big screen player where they have space for larger batteries or used in environments with plugs about, you need to keep this players sleek as poss hardware wise as there is enough already

oh dear - file listing of music .. sigh, suppose i will never get my wish :(
