I've been using a new Ainol V8000HDG for about one week and, in general, it works well.

Issues I'm having:

1. When connected via the HDMI cable to a Sony KDL-52XBR4 (LCD TV), the Sony TV displays "unsupported signal." I've tried all combinations of plugging/unplugging/restarting TV and the Ainol, but nothing works. There is no display on the TV, just a black screen and the text message "unsupported signal." That model of Sony TV supports these various HDMI signals: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 1080/24p, and I would think the Ainol is sending out one of those choices. (Component and composite from the Ainol to the TV both work fine, if I select NTSC or 480i on the Ainol. Choosing 720p on the Ainol always gives a scrambled picture using component.) I tried the Sony web site for suggestions, and there were none. Any suggestions on how to get the HDMI connection working?

2. The FM radio produces mostly static, but sometimes a very faint signal. At one point, I could get 10-20 stations very clearly, but only for a few minutes. Now, nothing I try (manual or automatic tuning) gets anything but static. (I live where there are a lot of good FM signals.) Any suggestions?

3. PNG or BMP images larger than "medium" size do not display (I don't know the exact dimensions that start to fail), and there is no "error message" displayed. Large JPEG images display fine. Any suggestions?

4. I copied a large number of photos and folders (roughly 2000 images, 100 folders) onto the Ainol and now the Ainol "reboots" by itself if I select "Media Library" on the Ainol. The Ainol displays the status message "Scaning..." (misspelled, like I've written it), and then reboots after about 15 seconds of scanning. Any suggestions or known limits on the V8000HDG for number of files and/or folders?

5. Anyone know how to get support information from Ainol? I tried emailing "support@ainol.com" but got no response. I realize buying a PMP that generally isn't for export is a little risky, but the features the V8000HDG were too good (on paper) to pass up.

Any suggestions from you guys? Thanks.

Any helpful suggestion on how to contact Ainol-Sophia? I see her posts, but not any contact information.

Sophia, if you read this, do you have any information for my V8000HDG issues? Thanks.

If we don't hear from her soon I know how to contact Sophia directly.

I can't speak to the HDMI issue, but I do know that the radio on my V6000HDV doesn't work at all unless I have headphones plugged into the device. I think the headphones serve as an antenna.

HDMI problems could be bad EDID or HDCP support and component was in PAL on my V6000, it maybe the same with the V8000.
I confirm headphone is needed to scan and listen to FM stations.

all you can do is wait for firmware updates to fix problems, which is the case with most of these players, and hope the manufacturer cares enough about the player to make new firmwares

Well, one problem down, four to go. Ainol posted new firmware for the V8000HDG and installing it got rid of the "reboot" when selecting "Media Library."

HDMI still doesn't work on my machine. FM does work if I use the headphones, as suggested by others - thanks.

Sophia, any hope for an HDMI change (unless I'm the only one with this issue) and support for larger images?

Does anyone else own a V8000HDG and use it (successfully or not) with HDMI?

I emailed "Ainol-Sophia" directly a week ago regarding HDMI and large PNG/GIF/BMP images and have not gotten any response.

Does anyone out there have the V8000HDG and have it successfully connected and displaying via HDMI? As I mentioned in my original post, my TV is a very standard, up-to-date Sony that fully supports HDMI signals, but I continue to get an error message on the TV. HDMI connectivity is one of the main selling points of the new V8000HD family, so not having it working is a big disappointment.

Any suggestions or success stories with HDMI from others? Thanks.

While researching more about my HDMI issue, I found this web page that describes a PAL-NTSC HDMI converter. It contains some discussion about incompatible HDMI signals: http://www.hdstep.com/Atlona-Pal-HDMI-t ... 17375.html

Ainol-Sophia (or anone else who knows something about HDMI), is this a likely cause of my HDMI issues? (I have an American SONY and live in America.) Is the V8000HDG putting out an HDMI signal that is only compatible with a non-NTSC TV set? (And a reminder that the NTSC and 480i settings on the V8000HDG do work on my Sony TV.)

Hi Heter , I am sorry your machine also has something wrong .

Acturally i have ask our Ainol engineer for your question , they give me play the HDMI connect it is ok . no problem . so we think your Ainol player has wrong . we advise if it can change a new one . any others consumer have not this question .

The dafult setting is PAL , it can change according your TV ,. but if you connect HDMI this no need change PAL/NTSC .

You'd better change a new one ,try it !
