Today i got sent to me a Meizu M8 from a supplier within China. I will snap a lot more pics and videos shortly.
Just to give my quick summary on it, its a very stylish phone, light weight and certainly not cheap feeling. Overall the phone quality is very good, great reception, but i have not been able to get GPRS to work as i don't have my carriers settings and Wifi works great, used it in a starbucks, web browsing is cool.
Video playback is disappointing, RK2706 players have better video performance and the M8 can't play anything higher than its screen res, anything higher and videos will not play properly.
Audio is very good, loud speaker is very nice, sort fine, scrolling is nice, show album art (no cover flow), multiple playlist support.
Apps load well, got ScummVM to run, other WinCE apps do look like they will run on the M8 easily.
Screen quality is good, but not as nice as say the OS-43 screen (a little dissapointed there)
Touch screen is very responsive, multitouch is there for rezing images.
I have to say that i do think a lot of how the UI works, like how it flows and how certain finger actions create different responses is a total rip from the iPhone, really disappointing there, been playing with my friends iPhone recently and i can tell you the Meizu really did a knock off job on the UI. Oh well, i am not really complaining, i was just hoping that Meizu would have stepped up a little and not been so blatant.
Well i have only been using the phone for less than 12hrs, but it does look like a good phone, there are some issues, not sure if its firmware related or if i just haven't got the hang of it. Haven't been able to try the bluetooth yet either.
Will drop pictures and a general video review soon, followed up with more detailed reviews of different functions and stuff in a day or two, once i have got the hang of everything.
Will MP4 Nation sell these, maybe, we would be getting it from a company we deal with in China and not directly from Meizu, but the warranty would be valid and such. Price tag, 8GB would go for under $450.
