A guy over at CNMO, a Chinese tech site, has gone and taken apart his new Meizu M8, yes i know there are many Meizu fanboys crying their eyes out at seeing this butchering, but it does help to demonstrate the hi quality build of the M8 itself. Anyone that has taken apart one of those CECT phones will know that most China mobile phones, although are built well, look no way as clean or professionally built as the M8 does. Just one thing to point out, that the images don’t highlight is the wolfson audio chip visable when they are showing the samsung nand chip.

The Wolfson chip is a WM8753, which combines everything the M8 needs for sound/voice on one chip. On paper at least, it should match the WM8987 used in the M6 & M3.

Yes and no. Supposedly there are a few devices making their way into dealers' hands, but they're all marked as "test" units. Meizu hasn't gotten a license for the M8 yet, so no government permission to sell communication devices = no mass production/distribution of the M8. If they had it already, you'd be able to see the tag with the license number inside the battery/sim card compartment in those photos, but no...

There's no Christmas shopping season to worry about, but Meizu had better get the M8 out the door before the Spring Festival (New Year) in January.

Rofl, I wouldn't count on it being released anytime soon. Haha, I have a hunch it's going to take Meizu a fair 2 more years to do a small task. I wouldn't really consider getting this. I mean, with the price being $399 or something, I wouldn't say it's worth it.

It's $350 or $420 for the 8/16GB models. It's true, aside from the die-hard Meizu fans in North America, most of the interest you see expressed for the M8 outside China is coming from Europe and from developing countries. In the U.S. especially, folks are so used to free or otherwise heavily subsidized phones, I can't see the M8 making much of a splash. True also that one look at the M8 and folks there go China-bashing ballistic because of its obvious resemblence to you-know-what.

It's too bad that the media-centric strengths of the M8 are going to get lost in all that noise and indifference.

If it had Winmo instead of Wince I'd be all over it. Spending roughly $400 for an unlocked phone sure beats spending around $800 for something comparable. Unfortunately, without Winmo it looks like the HTC Touch HD is going to be the next best thing.

Except it runs Nokia's proprietary shell "S60" on the Symbian OS. You just can't yet beat Winmo's games, productivity, and customization.

games?

seriously games?

i dont need no stinking games

i just want a phone that works well, doesnt cause me any fuss, and has good music/video playback

considering this is coming from Nokia and i have never had a bad Nokia phone, I would be very inclined to buy it.

lets not forget about the Zune phone from MS either. that should be coming out in 2009 and should be at CES in January on display.

Hehe, yeah, I suppose playing games isn't important for everybody. I just like to fire up an old DOS game now and then, or one of the many fun Winmo ones. I still need to try out the various game system emulators available. Too many fun things to do and not enough time!

Monkey island and classic games like that on a mobile phone like on a Win Mobile would be ideal :)
