Can these PMP's power big earphones ?

Postby mug2k » Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:22 pm

I thinking of getting a Ramos T11RK and just wondered if they can power proper headphones and if there is any downsides to doing this ?

that really depends on your headphones.
I -for example- wondered that my Samsung and Onda both can power my
AKG 530 (200mw / 55 ohms) well.

It'll drive ur phone, but not loud enough. These player work best with 16 ohms earbud phone. You need a phone amp, something like Fiio E5.

The HD555 & 595 are quite efficient, but as others have said, you really need an amp to make them sound like they're supposed to sound. Chinese manufacturers don't really release their players' rated outputs; Oppo is the only company I regularly see publishing those figures. The S39 supposedly outputs 25mw/channel@16ohm. Hard to know if other manufacturers are comparable since they're all using similar chips, although I'm inclined to believe Oppo puts more care into designing their players. If we use Cowon players as a reference, definitely all Chinese players are going to be a big step below them.

I am curious what the Telcast T51/s:flo 2 will do, though.

With the T11Rk, you would need to use an amp, like the E5, to really drive your earphones to get the full performance from those headphones
