Know of any video converters that can be set to directly go into the mp3 player? I usually just use whatever software comes with the player...

Hi all,

I received a discount from the Admin for the missing Fiio E3 amp which I happily used to purchase an E5 amp instead.

To start off with I used the EMS shipping which was a good decision. It was posted last Friday from China and reached my location in New Zealand on Monday (this morning) - that's speedy service! It took a while to charge (not sure how long exactly, I left it charging and went to work). I tried my Nationite S:Flo without the Fiio E5 amp first to get used to how it sounded without the amp, then plugged the amp in and WOW! It actually makes quite a difference. So I thought why not try it on my other mp3 players. The Fiio E5 amp is more noticable on lower-end mp3 players in which it drastically improves audio quality. Having said that, it's still worth it with the S:Flo (although the S:Flo already has pretty decent quality).

I haven't tried the E3 amp, but from what I have seen, the E5 looks far better and I am assuming it sounds better too.

My S:Flo is still running fine, I am using ViDrop (ViDrop Download) to convert the movies as was suggested earlier and its great. Seems like it's a mp3 player I'm going to be keeping for a long time yet. I was a little disappointed when the S:Flo lite was released with TV-out, a feature I would have loved to see on the S:Flo... what's the difference between the S:Flo and S:Flo lite that makes the lite so much cheaper?

The SoundMagic PL20 earphones I received as a replacement for the Alpha Brainwavz aren't as good as I would have liked. They are designed like cellphone headsets (earphones w/mic) and have a "u" layout where one earphone has a longer cord than the other (in this case way longer) which means the left-earphone keeps getting pulled out... which I am finding annoying. The quality is alright though, so I will keep using them for now...

I still recommend the S:Flo to all those interested in buying it, and if you are considering buying a Fiio E5 Nationite edition -they're great!

The thing about "MP4" players is that I don't know any that actually play .mp4 files (except for proper Samsungs, Sony, etc even then they have to state MP4 or M4A support). MP4 on chinese "MP4 Players" refers to video "MPEG-4 .avi" support - a completely different thing to MP4.

In this situation they are able to market MP4 players as MP4 players because of their support for MPEG-4 video encoding... here in NZ it's actually a breach of our Fair Trading Act and those in NZ selling such players as MP4 players (like this site lol) could be prosecuted.

Anyway, to answer your question Video Encoding is where you get a movie / video file (legally obtained of course lol) which for example might be 120 frames per second and on a massive resolution suitable for TVs and PCs... which would use tons of space on your mp3 player unnecessarily, and in some cases the mp3 player cant process it enough so it freezes / jumps.. In which case, you can put the movie file through a converter / encoder which resizes it as specified and removes some of the frames (which doesnt leave it as smooth but its usually perfectly watchable) and reduces the size from say 700mb to 300mb... thus taking up less space.

For the S:Flo, ViDrop (as stated above) works fine ViDrop Download.

* I apologise if I bored you to death with that excessively huge post, for some reason I feel like writing tons... maybe I drank to much Coke and the caffeine has made me crazy!

Sorry for that try this one:

Download ViDrop

Scroll to the very bottom of the page and press "Download" icon then click "Download File" on either of the mirrors.

Good to see your enjoying the player and the E5, sorry your not too happy with the PL-20, do you not like the sound, i actually prefer their audio quality over the Alphas, i do agree that their look and the cord design isn't the best.

The difference ebtween the S:Flo and the Lite is in hardware, the LITE doesn't have the wolfson chip and has a dumbed down touch screen, haha, but the LITE is still as nice as the S:Flo, just the S:Flo is a bit more of a classy girl.

As for 'mp4' actually most RK27xx players now support mp4 format, just they are very picky on the mp4 files they will play and usually the playback from mp4 files aren't the best.

The PL20s are great in terms of quality and they work excellently with the E5, it's just the cable for them get caught on just about everything (which I can only put down to the rubber insulation / coating on the cables which is great for preventing tangles but annoying all the same)... not to mention the tiny length of cable for the "L" left ear piece... which is the one that keeps getting pulled out, whereas the "R" right earpiece has way too much cable... lol

Does the S:Flo lite still have a capacitive touchscreen?

I would also like to state that when I wrote my lengthy post subject "UPDATED: Nationite S:Flo Review" above, I hadn't actually turned the E5's bass boost on... which I realise now makes the even-better audio sound... even betterer than even-better...

As for the mp4 players now playing mp4s, that's why they are starting to market them as "MP5 Players" now... this applying to cheap generic players generally, which is a competitive market so I guess anything to make your mp3 player sound fancier. lol.

The LITE uses what the factory call a 'single point capacitive screen' i called it a dumbed down capacitive screen or a smarter resistive screen, take your pick, its still nice touch screen but there no dynamic scrolling on the LITE.

the term MP5 or MP6 really don't refer to file type of such but each number increase relates to a new attribute the player can do, like MP5 usually meant an RMVB player using the newer RK2706 chipsets, MP6 is what an MP5 player is but with a camera or TV out and FM transmitter. In China those terms have a categorical meaning in stores, if outside china, the terms just sound silly - consider it a cultural thing, lol.

Differences:
The S:Flo lite can't support more than one finger at a time on it's touchscreen, basically. While on the regular S:Flo, you can use two fingers to swipe/zoom, you can only use one on the Lite. Plus, on the S:Flo, you can flick your finger to the bottom of the menu. Can't do that on the Lite, you have to slowly swipe your way repeatedly to the bottom.

It isn't that big of a problem in my opinion, as I'm able to pretty much use my S:Flo Lite perfectly with no problems.

A plus is that the beeping problem that was evident in many S:Flos doesn't seem to exist in the Lite because of the different type of touch screens.
