The screen on the player is blank - can't see any of the icons. Appears to be "on" - green light is visible thru reset slot and I can hear the radio when I press in the vicinity of where radio Icon would be. I have tried re-setting multiple times turning it off and on multuple times, pressing the "M" key and plugging it into a wall charger. Don't have access to a computer because we are away for New Years (sending this via Blackberry).

I would really appreciate some advice or guidance - frustration level is now very high. Is there anything I can do to fix or does it have to go back?

Thanks so much.

I suspect your firmware was corrupted somehow. I doubt there is anything you can do about it now, sounds like you tried everything possible without a computer. Once you can connect the player to a computer, restoring the firmware should fix it.

Thanks but no - I haven't put in a memory card (my player barely works as is, so I'm yet in a position to try that...)

Does anyone have instructions on how to restore the firmware?

Thanks

i assume the player can be seen in windows fine

if so can you add the rkusb.tag file to the players main memory space, disconnect and press the reset button, re connect to the pc

if all is well you will see a new drive appear and in there will be some special firmware folders

if you can get this far then we will need to try and replace these files with a fresh set from another player

Hi - I can see the player in Windows fine.

How do I the rkusb.tag to the main memory folder? (In fact, where do I find the main memory folder?)

Sorry if these are basic questions but I'm a newbie.

Thanks for any help.

The main memory folder, or often refered to as the 'root' is just the top level 'folder' you see when you click on you player in Windows Explorer (assuming you're using a Windows computer). The image below is a snapshot of my OS-81. You need to copy the rkusb.tag file to this main directory. I have the file Teclast.sys on mine to 'open up' the hidden partition where the firmware is because I have a Teclast firmware on my player right now. The Nationite firmware needs a rkusb.tag file to open the hidden partition. Follow the rest of Maderin's direction and you should see another drive show up that has the 'system' & 'system00' folders as shown on my "J" drive below. Once you get there maderin should be able to help get you the proper files and direction to fix your firmware.

Thanks Lurker210 - that's very helpful. Where do I get the rkusb.tag file that I need to copy into the main memory folder?

You can make your own, there is nothing special about the file. I made mine using Windows Notepad. Just create a new document, do a 'Save As' and save it with the rkusb.tag name. Make sure you change the file type on the bottom of the 'Save As' dialog box to 'All Files (*.*)' otherwise it will add the .txt extension.

Hi - I created the rkusb.tag file and put it in the main memory folder, disconnected, reset and reconnected. Unfortunately, when I re-opened, I didn't see any special firmware folders.

Am I out of luck? If so, can someone from the vendor let me know what to do next?

Thanks.
