Modding V2000se, VX747 and players with the JZ chips

Postby maderin1 » Sat Mar 29, 2008 2:20 pm

I was going to start looking at producing some sort of modding file for the JZ chips found in the Ainol v2000se, vx players, steell etc using the method i found for the Rockchip player, but i thought i would first look and see if anything had been done yet.

Well, it has, and quite alot seems, there appears to be quite a few skins out there for the various players, so i will now dump here all the bits i have found and let you all have a bash at finding out how they actually did this.

Modding these players at the moment refers to changing the look of the players User Interface not adding functionality, emulators etc, but this may be happening, i dont know, more research will need to be done

One tool that i eventually found, after many dead links was a small app that basically rips the "HXF" file to pieces, revealing all the core files that make up the firmware.

This tool is amazing but it is all in Chinese and i do not yet know fully how to use it. Basically it can extract all the files out of the HXF, you then work on them, when done it can pack them all back together again into a new HXF file.

This is the HXF file extractor: UPDATED FILE WITH COMDLG32.DLL and COMDLG32.OCX INCLUDED IF NEEDED
NOTE: this is the enlgish version of the editor kindly translated by Natsukawa

[attachment=1:3aefw8kx]hxf editor.JPG[/attachment:3aefw8kx]
Download and of course "virus scan" the file.

so this is what i have so far figured out.

1. This tool needs to be placed in the folder along with the HXF file you want to work on
2. Double click to open it (see image below)
3. click the left button on the top and select the HXF file
4. The program appears to do nothing but take a look in the folder and you will see it has created a new folder called "out_hxf"
5. Have a look in the folder and you will see several more folders like:

    #codecs
    #game
    #system
    #user_data

codecs file contains files with the extension ".dl", and you wll recognise the file names whe you see them
Game contains a folder per ame on your player, in the folders are files for the game
system has folders called code, font and res
code has more "dl" files with names reffering back to the "game" files
font has some files called "BMF" .. bitmap fonts file ???
res is the main images folder and has several images and sub folder of images

so that is all the files i imagine from here you make your changes, change images etc or what ever.

when done rename the "out_hxf" folder to "in_hxf" and open the app again

now click the right hand button, a save as dialogue appears, call the new firmware a new name and ok it
the app will then compile all the file into a new HXF file, when its done, look in the folder and its is there

WARNING
i do not know if this works at all, i do not have a player to test on
try it and see if you are brave
i take no responsibility for ANY problems AT ALL for any problems
This may not work at all but it is worth a try

forgot to mention there is also some form of firmware customisation tool

this appears to me to be a tool to set all the firmware/player parameters like what appears on the menu, shutdown times etc, you know the stuff, not sure really, i am gonna ask someone to translate and see if it i useful in some way

you will find this tool in the "user_data" folder

I have tried the HFX editer so far...

But when I go to run the app, it gives me the error:

HFX
Class not registered

There it stops, the app dosent even load. I have been running a lot of conversion software though. Maybe I just need to restart my PC and try it again.

Well I restrated...Same error message for the HFX.

And the diytool I get an error message as well but a different one:

Some Chinese characters [I think?]
EAccess violation

Could any of these errors be due to just the Chinese characters? I see from your posts that you seem to have them 'running'. Or are those pic's from another site?

Comdlg32.dll I did have.

comdlg32.ocx - I did not have.

I downloaded, saved to my System32 folder...tried, still same error. I will try restarting again, maybe it has to register when windows starts up.

Succsess!

Your right click and...Didnt work for me. I had to go to run and enter :regsvr32 \windows\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

Then retried it - and it loaded! Have not got much further as yet. Will 'play' with and see what happens. Not on my player, but on the downloaded firmware.

Side note @ Maderin1:
Sent you PM at place you entered "MY WORK".
Trying to 'fix' all that.
