I got my Midnite and flashed to petolley FW 1102. Everything is fine except I have never been able to use the GPS. I have NOT been able to use it right out of box, before the flash either. I have GPS status, google navigation, google map, they all put me in Gulf of guinea. I have enabled gps on setting, and wiget shows gps is on, so does gps status, and the gps symbol on the status line is active.

Any suggestions please?

TIA,

bun

Stand on top of the nearest building (or point that has clear view of sky in all directions) and wait 5 mins.

You got to be kidding.... AND IT WORKED!!!

I took my A81e out, and skeptically sitting on the front porch, kind of angry why it is like that... be hold and be low, in 3 min or so, the GPS locked and located my location! And it lost the lock when got back into the house, I took the thing near a window, OMG, splitting second, it locked again. Very impressive.

Will try a road test soon, THANK YOU marcusbrutus,

bun

Thats how gps's normally work. Except that you dont have to go to the highest building. It's just helpful to be. Gps's usually dont work when in buildings or any kind of place that would block the signal from going straight up.

Makes me wonder how they work in cars (that have a roof) ;)

It still takes a great effort to get the gps locked, at least 3+ minutes. And it does NOT remember the last log location, keeps on throwing me back to Gulf of guinea. Being said, once locked, it worked very well.

I meant as in a "real" roof. But you know what I mean. Car roofs have nothing when compared to normal building roofs.

The antenna isn't the strongest and the back shell of the MIDnite is thick, which i think is the main factor contributing to the antenna signal strength. It does work out doors, normally once its got satellites you can stop facing it up to the sky and use it normally. The feedback we have is that it generally works well in cars, which is ideally the place you would want this feature mostly being used.

Make sure you have a LOT of clear sky in all directions.
Make sure that GPS is enabled.
Run the GPS Status app that comes pre-installed.
Watch the bars for the satellites as the tablet sees them.
Report what you see.
