It had been 1 year plus since I got my Ainol 16GB V8000HDS (classic).
I had previously owned Onda/Ainol/Gemei/Ramos players, and none had topped V8000HDS in terms of download playability and battery life.

Y2010's Ainol V8000HDS with SoChip SC9800 and battery of 2400mAh, none of the latest Ainol models come close to these specs.
Seems like Ainol had been marketing cheaper models with lower specification, no more newer models with higher capacity battery.

I don't believe in All-in-One solution by getting a Android player, I strongly believe MP4 playback better on dedicated media chip.
Also, I doubt the android models give you long hours of battery life with all sort of OS and wireless network overhead.
I could play at least 2-3 full movies on a single full battery charge with my Ainol V8000HDS.

I am looking for an upgrade, anyone got good models to recommend?
Criteria is 4.3" or larger screen, long battery life, and instant download playability.

Thanks in advance..
:D

Well. First of all, I think you shouldn't post about players in "General Android Tablet & App Talk" but in "General Media Player & Tech Talk". But I see they are posting about tablets there, too...

At first, I thought that sc9800 based player are better, too. I'm using them for a year or more and they are good, but now I'm thinking of buying a good tablet from Acer (A500), Asus (TF101) or Motorolla(XOOM), because I want wider format support(many h264 files don't play or don't play well on sc9800, 20-30%, dunno for sure), PDF reading and images (like manga scans) . They are expensive, yes, but... You get the quallity and support many times more than any chinese device. Oh, and these are not pocketable... But there is also a couple of powerfull chinese (and maybe some of not chinese) tabs with a 5 to 7 inch screen, those I heard of, don't know about their actual performance, though.

I have seen the V8000HDS still on stock at other sites. Can't list other sites on this forum, but Google it & you will find the site I'm referring to. There are two versions of the V8000HDS released by Ainol.

The 2010 version was a button operated SC9800 player. The 2011 version is a touch + button operated SC8600 player. So be sure to check with the site to make sure which one they are shipping out.

I'd buy the v8000hdv. It's a bit smaller, but has a better screen. You can still find it on a couple of sites. It's also button operated but it has the matt screen.

Kevin,

What is the screen quality on that V8000HDS? Does it also have album art displayed on the music player?

I heard HDS isn't that good (grain on the screen) and HDV has a very good matt screen. Also I think they should display album art.

OK, I remember now, this V8000HDV came with a LTPS screen. There were a couple of threads where this was mentioned on the forum, but not good answers because all the attention was on tablets.

Here is a link to the Ainol site. Not a lot of info.

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://www.ainol.com/plugin.php%3Fidentifier%3Dainol%26module%3Dproduct%26action%3Dinfo%26productid%3D9&usg=ALkJrhhQlNT1EaOsKbjvFS0KOUhpm5BKbA

Here is another for the V8000HDS (older SC9800 version).
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&twu=1&u=http://www.ainol.com/plugin.php%3Fidentifier%3Dainol%26module%3Dproduct%26action%3Dinfo%26productid%3D8&usg=ALkJrhhhbdJ0udOLXR-jKBdOK5LJeyTt_w

So the 4.3" V8000HDV had a better screen but the 5" V8000HDS had a bigger battery. Good thing is they are SC9800 players. Bad thing is that they are getting harder to find on the net.

Thanks for the links chengdue. I just looked thru the first one w/ Google Translate.

I had an Alheimer's moment there when I had forgotten about this Ainold V8000HDV. It had a good screen, but I already had my 4.3 Nationite OS72-HR when this was released, so I didn't focus on this. I was looking for a larger SC9800 player last year. I was also looking for a touch + button pmp and this V8000HDV was a button only device.

I was interested in buying an Ainol p810. I has a huge matt 8" screen with nice colors and no grain (so I was told by the owner of this player) but not so high resolution of 800x480 but I think it's quite ok for viewing movies. You can buy it for $160 with shipping included (or ask for a discount if the price is higher where you buy it, it worked for me, I convinced them to offer It to me for 160 and not 200). But now I want a tab like ASUS Transformer TF101 or Acer Iconia A500 to view PDFs and JPEGs, as well. (viewing experience on a player is quite unconfortable, usually). Even until the day before yesterday I was considering if I sould buy the P810 instead.

I want to point out that buttoned players like p810 and v8000hdv have a huge advantage(for me) of a matt screen that can be viewed even in sunny days... Unlike even not so glary v9000hda that is not bright enough to view in a sunlit room. TBH I can't stand glares and I'm getting the matt screen film for my tab, too.
