Ainol’s Flagship Tablet – The NOVO8 – Unboxing

With the recent official release of Ainol’s 5-inch tablet from their NOVO line – the NOVO5 – we’ve now got an unboxing of their flagship model – the NOVO8. The 8-inch slate comes in a stylish albeit standard Ainol box that reveals the device when opened. What you’ll then find within the device if you were to open it (which we advice against!) is a Cortex-A9 processor, an ARM Mali-400 3D graphics chip and 512MB of RAM. The player’s 8-inch capacitive screen supports 5-point multitouch and has a resolution of 1280 x 768. Other specs include 1080p video playback, HDMI out and WiFi and OTG connectivity. Find out more after the break.

Moving on to the outside – the tablet comes in a soft, cream white shell with rounded back edges – simple yet nice. The NOVO8 does have a touchscreen, however Ainol has decided to include an array of navigation buttons as an alternative for those greasy finger days. It even comes with a trackball that will probably run smoother when greased (don’t take out word for it though!). The jacks and ports can be found on the right perimeter and most are nicely tucked away behind a plastic flap. There’s also a front camera which can be used to record video as well, situated on the top right corner. Flip the player around and you’ll see a built-in kick stand for propping the player up during those bed-side-table movie nights. You’ll also find a flap covering the MicroSD card slot. Last but not least, the NOVO8 runs Android version 2.2 (FroYo) with no mention of a Honeycomb update yet. Check out the images of the Ainol NOVO8 tablet from the gallery below.

If only the screen was flush though. A screen like that can get dust and such trapped in the corners.
